Different People Make our World Conference Thanks

E-mail Print PDF

Through the medium of your newspaper I would like to thank all who contributed to the success of our conference “Different People Make Our World” which was held at the Caleta Palace on Thursday 12th November. The aim of this conference was to promote Equality and Diversity and to focus on people’s rights to equal treatment in law in practice.

Our community is made up of different sorts of people, young, old, able-bodied, disabled, different nationalities and sexual orientations. All of them contribute to our society and economy as workers, customers, employers, clients and in many other ways. They all form part of Gibraltar’s vibrant community.

Equality, Diversity, fairness is all about people, their contribution, needs and rights. People are our business therefore promoting Equality and valuing diversity is central to our work.

I would therefore like to thank Citizens Advice International,  Speakers David Crome – Unite the Union, Human Resources Forum, Lesley Lewis, Laura Barea, Sarah Gomersall, Nicole Stevens, Shell, Gillian Guzman, Hassans, Christian Rocca, Isolas, Paul Peralta, Legislation Support Unit,  GOG,  Mark Montovio, Counsellor, Andrew Haynes for chairing.

Thanks also to our sponsors, Govt of Gibraltar, Gibtelecom, Isolas and Michael Ford Consultants, and all the volunteers who gave up their time freely to help on the day. The Trustee Board of CAB and Minister J. Netto for the great interest they take in the work of CAB and their unwavering support, and of course the bureau staff for their organizing skills.

We know that many of CAB clients are among the most powerless and vulnerable and sometimes face discrimination. Many also face multiple disadvantages and can have problems with low incomes, race, religion, disability or sexual orientation. This makes them in many cases having to deal with multiple problems and barriers in their everyday life and can have problems adjusting.

Working in the heart of the community of Gibraltar we are very much in touch with people’s worries anxieties and concerns.

This conference aimed to give our clients a voice and raise awareness of Equality and Diversity in the community we serve here in Gibraltar.

Thanks once again to all who took part.
