Members from Age Concern Eastbourne visited the officers of the Gibraltar Citizens Advice Bureau at the beginning of the month.
“We were invited over to learn about the excellent work the Bureau carries out and also discuss the needs of older people in both Eastbourne and Gibraltar,” explained Keith Girdler.
“Isolation seems to be an issue that can affect older people no matter where they live and we both provide clear information to tackle this serious problem”.
Age Concern Eastbourne are keen to support the work of the Citizens Advice Bureau in Gibraltar by providing specific information whenever necessary.
Keith Girdler states, “A link with Gibraltar will be useful, the Internet means that we can respond to a request (e.g. equipment aids for older people) within minutes”.
Accompaying the Age Concern Eastbourne contingent were volunteers from age concern Estepona (Barry Hands, Iris Hands and Eileen Dry), who acted as hosts to the UK visitors.
Keith Girdler added, “The visit to Gibraltar has been interesting in that we have learnt about the distinct needs of older people here and how the Gibraltar Citizens Advice Bureau workers provide confidential advice and information to the population.
Mr Girdler thanked Pili Rodriguez, Robert Clarke, Manuel Ruiz and the people of Gibraltar for such a warm and friendly welcome.
The group met with members of the Gibraltar Citizens Advice Bureau to discuss the issues of concern and were also hosted to lunch by the Bureau.
